A flexible working model for nursing staff

The rehabilitation center excels in innovation across all departments and specialist areas. This also applies to nursing. During her CAS in Leadership, Eveline developed a new working model for nursing staff as part of her thesis, which offers new perspectives for a profession whose future has been the subject of heated debate since the coronavirus pandemic. Nursing professions are still struggling with a shortage of skilled workers, demanding working conditions, and high resignation rates. Eveline was able to put her new working model into practice directly at the rehabilitation center. To give her staff more freedom and make the nursing profession more attractive with a better work-life balance, Eveline's employees can now organize their own shifts. This allows nursing staff to better plan their free time, especially their weekends and holidays, and better accommodate individual needs and lifestyles. Finally, Eveline takes one last look at the duty roster, checks that all staffing requirements for the clinic's daily operations have been met, and then approves it. Feedback from the staff has been overwhelmingly positive, and the flexible duty roster will therefore also be used in other departments at the Valens clinics in the future.

Nurse – Not just a job, a calling

Vanessa is experiencing the new duty roster model firsthand. As a young trainee, it is not easy to balance her nursing career and her social life. Many of her friends work regular hours, and the opportunity to have a say in her own working hours allows Vanessa to spend the occasional weekend with them. Despite the demanding nature of her job, Vanessa is a nurse with all her heart. Accompanying people in their recovery after an accident or stroke of fate and helping them find their way back into everyday life is much more than just a training program or a job for her. It is a calling. Thanks to the modern working conditions at the Valens Rehabilitation Center, it is also an attractive career path. The respectful atmosphere within the team and the friendly relationship with her supervisor help Vanessa cope with the often demanding workdays.
