We don’t compromise on education
When it comes to education, we believe only the best will do. So it’s a good job that Sarganserland-Werdenberg lies at the centre of an attractive network of schools offering recognised programmes at every level of the education system, from primary schools to secondary schools and universities. Together, they offer a huge range of opportunities – all easily accessible from any of our municipalities.
Alongside excellent state-run primary schools, the region is also home to a number of private schools, including the International School Rheintal (ISR) in Buchs. This network of educational institutions opens up a global approach to education, including the option of English-language instruction from nursery school right through to the International Baccalaureate (IB) exams. Are your children aiming for university after secondary school? Then Mittelschule Sargans, a business-focused commercial secondary school or federal vocational education and training are obvious ways to get there.
But education doesn’t stop there. On 1 September 2020, the Interstate University of Technology NTB Buchs merged with the University of Applied Sciences Rapperswil (HSR) and the University for Applied Sciences St. Gallen to create the University of Applied Sciences of Eastern Switzerland (OST) – it’s the perfect place for technically-minded students. Our world-class educational facilities are complemented by the nearby University of Liechtenstein, as well as by outstanding institutions in the Austrian Vorarlberg area. The University of St.Gallen (HSG), the University of Zurich (UZH) and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) are slightly further away, but all three are within easy reach by public transport.
Education and business go hand in hand
Switzerland’s dual system of vocational education and training is admired internationally, and schools and employers alike are fully committed to it. The professional training centres in Buchs (bzb) and Sargans (BZSL) are no exception. The region provides extensive support for professional training, for example through the FITNA Technology Days’ (an event encouraging interest in technology and science in young people), the Sarganserland-Werdenberg Employers’ Association’s “Lehre statt Leere” programme and the Sarganserland careers fair.
Another expression of the strong relationship between education and industry is the Research and Innovation Centre Rheintal RhySearch, which reinforces Buchs’ position as a major hub for education and research in the Rhine Valley.
