14 municipalities forming a great region
The Sarganserland-Werdenberg region is comprised of 14 separate municipalities, located between Quarten, Bad Ragaz and Sennwald. They all offer an enticing mix of high living standards, attractive leisure facilities, active village communities and urban flair. And if that’s not enough, you get a great quality of life, a safe environment and short distances thrown in, too.
The region is home to 80,000 residents, all living in a stunning landscape surrounded by famous mountain ranges, such as the Alpstein, the Alvierkette and the Churfirsten. The region’s 14 municipalities are nestled in St. Gallen and Graubünden’s sections of the Rhine Valley, or along the Seeztal towards the Walensee, and are spread out on the flat, in the valleys and on the mountainsides.
Since 2010, Sarganserland-Werdenberg’s population has been growing at nine per cent a year, above the average for the Canton of St. Gallen. Werdenberg is generally seen as more dynamic than Sarganserland, thanks to a combination of strong economic growth and restrictions on establishing companies in neighbouring Liechtenstein.
Town or country?
Each municipality has its own advantages. For example, Sargans and the city of Buchs are regional centres, while Bad Ragaz is a world-renowned health resort. If you’re rather looking for a strong village community with a passion for its traditions, you can’t go wrong with any of the other eleven municipalities. The choice is yours.
Whatever you decide, there are a few things all our municipalities have in common. Apart from being surrounded by natural beauty, they all offer high-quality infrastructure and outstanding education and leisure facilities, as well as plenty of places to relax. They also boast charming and strong village communities, along with numerous clubs and associations fostering local traditions.
